Nolan J. Spencer
Mr. Spencer is an Operating Partner at Rural American Fund. Mr. Spencer has been working with Mr. Karlson and Ms. Koch since 2008 when they hired him as the CFO of their portfolio company, La Crosse Forage & Turf Seed, LLC (part of Rural American Fund I, L.P.). Rural American Fund I, L.P. exited its investment La Crosse Forage & Turf Seed, LLC in June 2018 to DLF Pickseed, a wholly owned subsidiary of DLF Seeds A/S. As part of the sale process to the international strategic buyer, Mr. Spencer transitioned to the role of CFO consultant to La Crosse Seed. Post Mr. Spencer’s independent consulting agreement with DLF Pickseed / La Crosse Seed, he founded Spencer Advisory Group where he provided outsourced CFO and operating partner services to middle-market businesses and private equity firms.
As Operating Partner for the funds, Mr. Spencer focuses on providing due diligence services; outsourced financial leadership / integration services; change management support; and, in-depth consulting (e.g. financial, HR, IT/ERP) throughout the acquisition process and transition of executive level positions in new investments.
Mr. Spencer began his career in 2006. Prior to being the CFO at La Crosse Forage & Turf Seed, LLC, Mr. Spencer spent two years at Kraft Foods Global Inc. as a Senior Financial Analyst in the Lunchables and Convenient Meals groups.
Mr. Spencer is a member of Charger Genetics, LLC (Rural American Fund III RBIC, L.P.) and Independent Ag (Rural American Fund III RBIC, L.P.) Board of Directors. Mr. Spencer received a BS in Accounting from Case Western Reserve University and a MBA in Investment Banking and Corporate Finance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
